3D Systems has released ProJet™ DP 3000 printer. It features an ultra high definition build out to grant up to an extra 60% in productivity that will allow dental labs to dramatically increase production volume for bridge/partial work and crowns. Sega showing a new 3D game at AOU 2011

2/19/2011

At AOU 2011 in Japan, Sega demonstrates its new 3D date arcade game (Let's Go Island 3D - Lost on the Island of Tropics). This game allows you to sit beside your date in an enclosed space or private booth. Both will be given some sort of simple controls such as a light gun. There will be a point in time that the game is designed to scare your date into your arms (hopefully). It will be an enjoyable experience, maybe have a few laughs and get the chance to spend a little time cuddling and all for the price of 500 yen.

There are a few things to make this 3D game note worthy. First off it is glasses free 3D! You don't see that every day but if for some reason it is just not working for you there is a button on the outside of the game to switch it to a flat 2D mode. You also get some cool air bursts on your face (to add to the effects) by some hidden air jets. These jets add to the surprise in certain scenes of the game especially if you don't complete the task.

All in all the game is kind of quirky but in a good way. This can be seen even by the cabin design (here), still there is no taking way the amount of fun you can have playing this game.
If you ever get the chance, give the game a try. At 500 yen (a little over $6) its worth the time and money for nothing else then the comedic value.

Watch out Windows 7 Phones, some Angry Birds (maybe in 3D) seem to be flying your way!

Angry Birds (from Rovio) is a very popular and hyper addictive game that is already out for the Android and Apple seems to be making it way towards the Windows 7 Phone.

The two companies (Rovio and Mircosoft) has seem to had their differences in the past (November of last year). There was an occasion when the logo for Angry Birds was displayed on the Microsoft website without the consent of Rovio. Rovios reaction to that was to send out a Tweet stating that it was in no way committed to do a version of Angry Birds for the Microsoft Windows 7 Phone. Needless to say that the news was a disappointment to many fans.

In a recent interview, Rovio developer Peter Vesterbacka went on to state that there's no hard feelings between Microsoft and Rovio and that currently there are plans already in progress to bring Angry Birds to the Windows 7 Phone. Unfortunately a release date was not specified by Vesterbacka. When asked, he stated "Let's just say, Microsoft has a lot of lawyers" hinting that the hold up was mostly on the Microsoft side.

As a side note, Vesterbacka also mentioned that a 3D version of the game is in the works but did not specify on what platform or the potential release day.

Comcast is making preperations for a 24-hour 3D channel.

According to Reuters, Comcast (a leading U.S. cable company) stated this Thursday that is is gearing up to launch a 24-hour 3D tv channel called Called Xfinity 3D next week, to kick off on February 20th.

Xfinity 3D will be focusing on movies, sports, music and original programing. The first broadcast is expected to be the NHL game between the Montreal Canadiens and the Calgary Flames and keeping true to their stated focus, the next scheduled program is a concert from Kings of Leon in Hamburg, Germany.

Comcast has set it goals to bring original content to its viewers ranging in programming to include, Chinese dragon dancing, African safaris, haunted castles, rhythmic gymnastics, and others.

"Whether it is a concert, sporting event or movie, Xfinity 3D brings the best seats in the house right to customers' living rooms," said Marcien Jenckes, senior vice president and general manager of video services for Comcast.

With the launch of Xfinity 3D, Comcast is poised to join the growing ranks of networks (such as ESPN and 3Net a joint collaboration between Discovery channel, Imax, and Sony)  to offer 3D programming to its viewers. This falls right in line with the growing trend to offer 3D on demand. Just last month "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs" and "Monsters vs. Aliens" were shown in 3D format from HBO 3D on demand (launched by Comcast).

This if a strong trend for major companies to offer 3D services. It is in our opinion that this is just the tip of the iceberg for the 3D format. As the technology continues to grow and becomes widely accepted across the board (probably after glasses free 3D is perfected), we will see more companies follow suite.

Even toy companies such has Hasbro have gotten on board with making 3D glasses enjoyable and stylish. Just after the launch of the designer 3D glasses from companies like Gucci, Oakley, and Calvin Klein Hasbro drops an announcement for 3D glasses geared towards children. Well... glasses may not be the correct term for them, they are more along the line of face masks/helmets styled in their favorite Transformer characters (Optimus Prime and Bumblebee). Click here for picture

The masks (Transformers Cine-Power 3D Mask) will be compatible with RealD passive 3D. In anticipation for the release of the new Transformers film: Transformers: Dark of the Moon,
the face-masks/glasses will be with any RealD movie theater or passive 3D HDTVs.

They are scheduled to be released on May 16th, just six weeks before the Transformers fill release and expect them to carry a price tag of around $9.99.
This may be something worth a look at for those die hard Transformer fans in  your family.
